Polygon, a manufacturer of composite pipes, bearings, and pneumatic cylinders, designed custom composite bushings for K-Tec bulldozers for use in hydraulic cylinders and other pivot points on heavy-duty scrapers and straighteners.
Levelers and scrapers are used in extremely demanding mining and construction applications, requiring bushings that can withstand vibration, strain, wear, and severe contamination without frequent maintenance.
K-Tec Earthmover was established to perform well in heavy earthmoving applications and landscapes. The company’s straighteners and scrapers are subjected to extremely harsh conditions, including heavy loads, water ingress, soil, clay, and mud. An important part of leveling and scraping equipment is the hydraulic drive system, which sets the depth for each excavation or scraping operation. These hydraulic systems are subject to huge strains and stresses, and must maintain normal operation during the entire life cycle of the equipment.
According to the company, through cooperation between the engineering team, Polygon was able to provide K-Tec with customized composite bushings that performed well even under the extreme pressures faced by earthmoving equipment.
The sturdy composite material can withstand the strain, variable speed and vibration of the bearing, while Polygon’s proprietary bushing bushing eliminates the need for lubrication or other regular maintenance. Polygon says that the casing will remain functional even when exposed to the harsh environmental conditions of earthmoving applications.
Polygon’s customized bushing slows down the wear process at this critical wear point, extending the average maintenance time and overall service life of K-Tec equipment.
K-Tec and Polygon have established a long-term partnership, using Polygon’s composite casing to complete multiple successful projects on several generations of K-Tec equipment.
K-Tec buyer Rick Ragbir said: “Given our heavy-duty applications, we knew from the beginning that we needed to use grease-free bushings on earthmoving equipment to reduce the need for daily lubrication, so we contacted Polygon.”
