WHY DO THE POWER CABLES HAVE MANY LAYERS?

Power cables are relatively common cables for distributing and transmitting electrical energy. They are usually used in urban underground power grids, internal power supply in industrial and mining enterprises, and so on. People who have some knowledge of cables will find that power cables have many layers, so why do power cables have so many layers?

The outermost layer of the power cable we can see intuitively is usually made of rubber or rubber synthetic sleeve, which not only acts as a basic insulation, but also protects the cable from external damage. Power cables can be divided into high-voltage cables and low-voltage cables according to the voltage level. The high-voltage cables contain a layer of insulation, which is very similar to resin fillers, while low-voltage cables do not have this layer. In order to fill in the gaps inside the power cable, something like a ribbon needs to be wrapped around each core.

The role of the shielding layer of the power cable is divided into two situations. Due to the large current passing through the power cable, a magnetic field will be generated around the current. In order to prevent other components from being affected by the current, a shielding layer will be added to the cable. In addition, the second case is that if the cable core is damaged, the current leaks out and flows into the grounding network along the shielding layer, which plays a certain degree of grounding safety protection.

The common components of power cables are roughly conductive cores, insulating layers, and protective layers. In detail, it can be divided into conductive wire core, inner semiconducting layer, insulating layer, outer semiconducting layer, copper shielding, filler, inner lining layer, steel tape protective layer, and outer protective layer.
