Key Selection Points for 15 kV/25 kV 200 A American-Style Single-Pass Bushing insert Joints: How to Select Detachable Connectors for Ring Main Units

In power distribution projects and box-type substation retrofits, the selection of American-style loadbreak elbows (detachable connectors) has long been an easily overlooked but highly consequential step. Based on field experience, the following key selection points should be considered.

1. Interchangeability is the biggest pain point in the field.

Those working in power distribution engineering have likely encountered this situation: when replacing loadbreak elbows on site, bushing interfaces from different brands are often incompatible, while the cabinet structure cannot be altered, resulting in construction delays. During selection, it is essential to confirm whether the product strictly complies with IEEE 386 and is compatible with a universal bushing well. For example, the Anhung ADTT-200 series 200 A bushing insert was developed according to this concept. It can directly replace products of the same specification from other brands without changing the original cabinet structure, greatly shortening on-site installation and maintenance time.

2. Proper installation should be visually and intuitively verifiable.

This may seem like a minor issue, but it is actually very serious. After many on-site installations, confirming whether the elbow is fully seated is not always sufficient; repeated disassembly and testing are time-consuming and increase the risk of errors. It is recommended to select products with a yellow indication ring. After installation, the seating and engagement status can be confirmed at a glance, reducing unnecessary rework.

3. Insulation performance and partial discharge levels cannot be compromised.

The tolerance for insulation failure in damp underground cabinet environments is almost zero. Once partial discharge exceeds the standard, it directly creates a safety hazard. During selection, pay attention to the insulation body material and shielding structure. Taking the ADTT-200 as an example, its insulation body is made of peroxide cross-linked EPDM rubber with a fully shielded submersible structure to meet dead-front safety requirements. Before leaving the factory, each unit undergoes AC withstand voltage and partial discharge tests and is marked with a traceable QR code, ensuring quality control.

4. Electrical parameters should cover actual operating conditions.

The rated current is 200 A, and the short-time withstand current can reach 10 kA. The product covers two voltage classes, 15 kV and 25 kV, which can basically meet the high-voltage connection requirements of American-style pad-mounted transformers, outdoor ring main units, and cable branch boxes. During model selection, simply confirm the parameters against the actual project requirements.

5. Supporting accessories affect construction efficiency.

This point is easily overlooked. If the accessory package includes cleaning paper, silicone grease, dust caps, installation instructions, and a certificate of conformity, installation can proceed directly after receipt. There is no need to purchase miscellaneous auxiliary materials separately, and the on-site experience will be much better. If you are selecting power distribution projects in North America and the Middle East and are concerned about bushing interface interchangeability or on-site installation verification, it is recommended to request dimensional drawings and a complete technical parameter table directly from the manufacturer, and verify them item by item according to the project requirements.
