If you’ve ever pulled a 25kV elbow connector out of a pad-mount transformer after a thunderstorm blew through your service territory, you already know the story. Lightning finds the easiest path to ground — and on underground distribution, that path runs straight through the bushing well of every transformer and switchgear on the feeder. When the MOV inside the arrester finally gives up, you get a wet paper transformer, a blown bushing, and a 3 AM call to dispatch.
That’s exactly the problem the team at Anhuang built the new ABLQ-34/78 elbow surge arrester to fix.
What it is
The ABLQ-34/78 is a 200A, 25kV-class elbow surge arrester that drops straight onto any standard 200A loadbreak bushing extender. Inside the peroxide-cured EPDM rubber body sits a metal-oxide varistor (MOV) module — the same MOV technology that’s been protecting distribution gear for decades. The conductive EPDM jacket meets IEEE Standard 592, so it interfaces cleanly with the separable connectors you’re already using on pad-mounts, switchgear, vault entries, and entry cabinets.
